Company Profile
Shea Fuel was started in 1960 in Everett, MA by Walter Shea, Jr.
who was also known to many as 'Buddy'. It was
originally run on a part-time basis as a labor of love and to provide an extra
income for his growing family. For years, his wife Elsa was by his side as
office manager.
Together with their two young sons, they named the business
"Shea & Sons Oil Co". They now have five sons and one
daughter and six grandchildren.
Shea Fuel quickly grew through word of mouth because of
Walter's honest dependable and efficient service. Shea Fuel today does business
with many of the sons and daughters of Walter's original customers.
With the addition of a second truck due to the company's
continued growth the family business was joined by Walter's father, Walter T.
Shea, Sr who was a valued employee until his retirement.
In the mid sixties Walter, Jr. moved to Lynnfield, MA and the
customer base now extended from the Chelsea-Everett area to North Reading,
Wakefield and beyond. The company continued
its growth and in 1985 was incorporated as J.M. Shea Fuel, Inc.
Walter is now joined by three of his sons, Steven, John and
Kevin who were brought up in the business by their father to know all of the
aspects of the family firm. As the boys gained experience in the installation
and servicing of oilheating equipment and the safe and reliable delivery of
heating oil to the company's customers a well rounded staff was formed.
The company enjoys long-standing and cordial relationships
with its suppliers of fuel oil and heating equipment and it is for this reason
and our excellent service that we can say with Shea Fuel, "our customers
never go cold".
The company has weathered many of the hardships faced by the
industry and the oilheating consumer. We stood next to our customers during the
oil embargoes of the 1970's never allowing our customers to go without fuel
because at Shea Fuel "our customers never go cold".
In the infamous "Blizzard of 78", we were on the
frontlines delivering fuel oil and providing service and installation for our
customers because "our customers never go cold".
As recently as this past winter and the price spikes and
shortages of the cold season, we were there for our customers because at Shea
Fuel "our customers never go cold".
Our commitment to our customers comfort is unsurpassed! As an
example during the February 6, 2000 snowstorm, we received a call from a
customer who owns a two-family home and has been one of our customers for 20
years. We responded to his call and upon inspection found that his boiler had
failed and needed to be replaced. After contacting our suppliers and directing
our labor force to the effort were able in spite of the storm conditions to
reestablish heat at 9:00 PM that same night. "Our customers never go
cold".
A family attitude, honesty and reliability has been our
philosophy since 1960 and today we are even more committed to our customers
comfort, safety and satisfaction. We still remember that serving our customers
is the most important thing we do, "our customers never go cold".
